Stoney Grant Awardees

The Stoney Grant was established in 1997 to honor Professor Harold (Stoney) Stonehouse (at left), who was instrumental in providing direction and inspiration to MESTA for many years. Stoney helped to establish the National Earth Science Teachers Association as well.

In the first year of the Stoney Grant program,  a total of 10 grants were awarded. Grants were given to elementary, middle school, and high school teachers from schools across the state.

MESTA Telescope Building Workshop Participants

For six years MESTA  awarded an annual $5,000.00 Stoney Grant to groups 10 teachers @ $500.00 each for constructing their own telescope through a telescope building workshop led by MESTA board member Kevin Dehne. The total Stoney Grant awarded for this project  was $30,000.00. Below is a list of known recipients. If you participated in this workshop and don't see your name below, contact us and we will add you!
