About Us

MESTA is..

An organization, founded in 1967 by a small group of educators, that targets helping Michigan educators in the field of Earth and Space Science.  The purpose of MESTA shall be the advancement, stimulation, extension, improvement, and coordination of Earth and Space Science education at all educational levels through voluntary and donated efforts of MESTA members.

MESTA leadership is comprised of a seven-person Executive Committee (including five elected positions).  The full Governing Board is comprised of the Executive Committee members plus Board members appointed by virtue of their volunteer role within MESTA, as well as appointed (by the President) of Board-Members-At-Large.

MESTA members are eligible for consideration for a number of awards and grants. MESTA offers our quarterly journal (The Michigan Earth Scientist) that targets information and resources that teachers can use in the classroom right away.  We also provide a monthly e-newsletter (MESTA E-News) that is full of information about upcoming opportunities and events at both the state and national level.
